On a related note: the variation of Hypothesis #1, above, that assumes the shortage of neutrinos is due to low solar temperatures, and that these temperatures cycle up and down, is part of the basis for a good sci-fi novel "Fallen Angels", by Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle & Michael Flynn. I read that book on the Baen FreeLibrary. - RadRob
